Animals & Imagination

This online project was constructed as an 8-week interdisciplinary series of lesson plans designed to introduce teachers and their students to the artists and their work from the online exhibition "As Kingfishers Catch Fire"  in their classroom while exploring different themes through philosophical inquiry. The overall project is framed by the question – does our proximity to animals affect how they manifest in our imaginations? Students explore this idea by observing and documenting an animal that they have identified as closest to them in their everyday surroundings. The rationale behind this is to confront ideas of familiarity v’s exotic associations with animals. This reflective work carried out at home is used to inform the classroom activities. The classroom activities include, looking & responding, creative writing, drawing, discussion, debating, making and performing. To facilitate learning from a distance, each week teachers receive from me a full lesson plan, presentation/video and any resources needed to support the activities
